Not a recruiter but from prior experience, it will 100% end up being an expectation for you to do the same.
True. Also, if you’re an accountant it’s most likely not a “standard 9 to 5 job” and will most likely be expected
100% this is them telling you what they expect you to do, and they will eventually fire you for not doing it.
Yup. But you will win your unemployment case, so, might be worth it to try and make them see how stupid they are.
Agree with others… read between the lines to protect yourself and have realistic expectations of what’s real. That actually sounds more like 9 to 7 might even be on a good day vs numerous busy cycles throughout the year. Speaking from experience.
I would interview and see for yourself, because are these people getting in at 9 or later, taking a full hour lunch, and then working until 7? While not necessarily work/life balance, I add some time in the morning, don’t take a full lunch or work through lunch, and add a little bit of time at the end of the day. That way you’re not working until it’s dark outside and you have that time after work. That also isn’t every single day, but every now and then when deliverables need to be met. Again, not saying it is work/life balance because you’re losing your breaks and still working more than the 9-5, but this to me is more manageable than working an additional 2 hours at the end of the day and it still shows them your work and dedication.
Interview and see for yourself. But know it’s very very likely it’ll be expected of you too.
I would interview. I would ask during the interview if there are manual processes that can be automated? It could be that the team is doing manual work or some kind of task that is consuming time for no reason.
