I did some work at a nonprofit, and it was a very fresh look at things. Tight budget, don’t get paid much, but the experience was well worth it.
I honestly think it's more about the company and less about the size of the company. I worked at a really small software startup and they gave me tons of creative freedom and it ended up being an absolute blast.
Same. I landed a job in the cleaning industry, which is not exactly what most people picture when they think “creative marketing", but it’s honestly allowed more creative freedom than a lot of my friends at large agencies.
It taught me that the industry matters way less than the freedom you’re given to shape the brand voice.
I moved into marketing for a manufacturing firm and was shocked at how creative and challenging it’s been. Smaller or “unexpected” industries often give you more freedom and bigger roles than big-name brands.
I recently went to a mixer and have come to learn my PMM role is not exactly like others. I do standard messaging and strategy, but other times I work on some creative projects, like producing a video where I help cast, pick the direction etc. I also helped design a game that's now used at conferences. Created a workshop that's now scaled globally as a key lead gen activity. This is at a Fortune 500 company in tech
