Drink up
In all seriousness, I’m glad I stuck it out to make manager.
until you realize that you should have gone into IB where the work hours = $pay.
It’s literally not the same thing though. If you generalize enough everything is the same. “At the end of the day working at a gas station is the same thing as running Exxon because they both work in oil” do you see how ridiculous it sounds when you take all nuance out of an argument for the sake of generalizing?
I am actually very happy with my job and I am happy I worked in professional services in my 20s. I travelled around (been to rural areas, industrial factory areas where I wouldn’t have gone with my own $ that expanded my perspective of life, met and talked to people with very different background). I also learned to be comfortable with unknown and this helped me try out new things - moved around my entire life and worked in 3 different countries, etc.
Also I do not think I am underpaid - I have 7 years of experience with mediocre IQ and grit (= I am not that smart or that hard working, like I will not get into IB and MBB or big tech and such) and still making decent money and I have really good wlb (I rarely work over 40 hours and take 3-4 week off every year to travel on top of usual PTO)..
maybe I drank the koolaid but I still think there could be better places but this is no way a bad place to start your career
I did audit and AAS in pwc and I don’t consider either of those particularly valuable to my current work in fdd.
