Additional Posts in Salary Negotiations
Im not searching for a new job but an acquaintance reached out about a similar role at a similar energy company.Turns out 2 ppl threw my name in the hat. I looked into it and the position was posted 2 weeks ago.Their director wants to meet.I bet pay is one of the first things to be discussed so that no one’s time is wasted.Am I crazy for not wanting to entertain it for less than 20-25% base pay increase? Is it selfish to ask for more? I’m sure most salary conversations end in negotiation anyways?

Wow that sounds like an amazing offer. I would definitely go to them and let them know what you have on the table. If they want to keep you, they will do everything they can to make it happen.
Thanks,I have asked for a promotion in my current company but if I get promoted I would know that in March 2026 only and I might get 20 to 30% raise and it would be too late for my current offer
OP, why would you want to stay with your current company if you were out looking for another job? It’s 40% higher than what you’re getting now. Doesn’t that tell you anything? If you were there critical resource they should’ve paid you in the first place right?
You won’t get a 40% hike to match. They will hire someone cheaper to replace you. Take the offer!
This is likely the case OP
I negotiated a 25% bump with a competitor’s offer in-hand, but this was during the great resignation. 40% seems exceptionally high, esp given the current job market
Sidenote: I left my job 6 months after that 25% raise. Once the comp was rectified, I was distracted from the reality that it was time for me to move on
Definitely go with them. Literally every opportunity I apply to asks why I ask for such high salaries when I ask for minimum on their job posting
Thanks, all the best for your job hunting
If it was 10-15% maybe but I doubt you will get a 40% increase to stay unless you were significantly underpaid before. Are the jobs similar?
Also at the end of the day everyone is replaceable. It may not be easy at first but regardless of who leaves life will move on at your old company.
Thanks,I have asked for a promotion in my current company but if I get promoted I would know that in March 2026 only and I might get 20 to 30% raise and it would be too late for my current offer and they both are same roles where I act as project manager
Take it!
