I had a customer come in today to make a purchase. The items he requested were locked away in a cage that requires a ladder. I ask clarification questions before I moved the ladder on what he wanted he confirmed. I moved the ladder to the cage unlocked it then the customer changed his mind.. So I ended up having to move the ladder twice for the customer to change his mind and not make a purchase.

Sometimes I feel like my entire existence is unnecessary work for nothing. But seriously, I've had some customers send me on little expeditions that turned out to be a big waste. Sometimes I think some of these people get up in the morning thinking of ways they can make salespeople move around.

I have stuff like that happen all the time. My favorite is when I struggle to get an article of clothing from high up and then they say nevermind. You just watched me struggle for five minutes only to say oh nevermind.

Every day.

Every.

Freakin.

Day. ;)

Oh, all the time. It’s like being on call for indecision—moving stuff, double-checking, only for the customer to switch gears last second. You start wondering if patience should be a paid skill.

Is there anyone who has a contact at the Wall Street journal or NY Times or something like that?

I’ve been published for some thoughts on cybersecurity, but it’s was in a smaller IT Magazine. I’m trying to find the best way to take it to the next step for a freelance writing side opportunity. The writing is very separate from anything I’ve worked on in the Big4 or other consulting firms.. more about cybersecurity overall and the future, regulation, etc.

Any advice would be welcome. Thanks!

Back when I was getting started in the food world, I worked flipping burgers at In-n-Out. A man came in and said the burgers he had gotten weren’t right. He dumped the food on the counter and then he started throwing them back behind the counter. We gave him a refund and then his demeanor completely changed. He was calmer and he told us to have a great day as he left us to clean up the mess he made.

Once when I was waiting tables, I had a guy pay me cash. The change was 45 cents, which I didn't give back to him because like who wants that. He then asked where the change was, and when I explained that I didn't give back the loose change, he made a big stink about how dollars and cents matter and didn't leave me a tip. He was a republican staffer on capitol hill.
