You don’t have to do anything at all. You can ignore them and walk by.
If it’s a high rise you’ll likely never see them. I worked in a 10 floor building with a friend for 3 years and we only ran into each organically once.
However I would consider asking yourself why you’re allowing this person to hold space in your mind and cause you anxiety 8 years later? If they don’t deserve to be in your life, they definitely shouldn’t be on your mind.
It takes more energy to avoid them. Just say hi, and be a civil human being.
From my personal avoidant playbook: headphones in, look at your phone, pretend you don’t see them/recognize them 🥲 but worth asking, are they aware they’ve hurt you and have never apologized? As in, is there a chance they might greet you and come up to you?
Understandable! Still wondering though, are they aware of the harm they’ve caused and that this is still causing you anxiety so many years later? This also might be worth unpacking with a therapist. I hold a lot of grudges, and my therapist has helped me immensely with those lingering emotions
For additional info: I don’t like knowing I have real beef with someone. We’re also adults now. I don’t want to be friends with them but I also don’t want it to be awkward if I am stuck in an elevator with them. ALSO I have anxiety lol
8 years later. You’re not on my social media! Someone deeply hurt you. Why are you still able to see their moves on social media ?
