I had an interview last week with great feedback and an offer promised within days, but it's been almost a week of silence. Why do hiring managers leave candidates hanging instead of just saying "no"?

Is it possible they're just running behind because of the holiday last week? I get your frustration, but this isn't exactly unheard of. It usually takes at least a week for me to hear back after an interview, if not longer.

If an offer was promised, I suppose you just need to be patient until you receive the offer letter. Sometimes interviewers can sound quite positive and it's just the way they are with people. But if they promised an offer it's likely things are just delayed.

Sometimes, they might still be considering other candidates or waiting on budget confirmation. It’s annoying, but it doesn’t mean you’re out for sure. I'd try to follow up politely and see if I can get any updates.

Since it's only been a week, I'd give it some more time. It's possible that they're still interviewing others and are likely behind with the holiday week.

If your employer mandated you need to come in 5 days a week would you consider quitting? My situation is I live in my geographical territory and the office is 45 minutes away. No performance issues at quota consistently.

I’ve worked in sales for 12 years (8 years retail sales and management, 4 years inside tech sales and management). I’m feeling the burn and looking for something else in the tech field. I’m making $140k. I have a college degree but no marketing, engineering, or product experience. What other departments/jobs could I jump to and still keep close to my OTE? I’m pretty good at Salesforce and have thought about a SFDC admin type role, but that’s all I’ve thought of so far.

I’m in-house at a small company (60 people), started right out of law school about 5 years ago. We had a legal team of 5 then. Everyone has left and we just hired a new GC. I went from $70k to $100k a little over a year ago. I am expecting an offer from a firm doing business law work but think this might be an opportunity to go to my current employer and ask for a significant raise, with new offer in hand. Any thoughts or advice going into this?

15 YOE, recently started my first tech PR job at a large, stable company & have been asked to get ~20 SMEs in front of media. Subject matter is not sexy. I lead PR for all of U.S. & have no other PR colleagues. My agency’s budget is 100k/year & they’re spread too thin to hit their KPIs. I feel set up to fail & feel we should be focusing on a handful of SMEs and only our sexiest topics. Any advice on mitigating unrealistic expectations for coverage? Anyone handled similar problems in the past?
