I had an offer this week for a role 30% below industry norms, 200k plus SaaS deal size for bonus, when I went back with my counter, they just pulled the offer. On the original questionnaire for the job location and salary, they asked for a range, then when I asked for the top of that in the counter, they just pop pulled the role. Gobsmacked.

I know it doesn’t feel like it, but you dodged a bullet. While the job market is difficult, the character and proclivities of a company or hiring manager do not sway with the times, they reveal them. If they did that at the beginning, you can only imagine what they were capable of once you arrived.

like

That's lousy, but things like that will happen, especially in this job market. There's no shortage of other candidates, and someone who really needs a job will accept a lowball offer. One of the downsides of the current job market is that it tends to push salaries downward, as many people will take whatever they can get and that becomes the standard.

Name them so others know not to waste their time

The job market does stink right now, and, overall, it currently leans in favor of the employer (more people looking for than actual legit job openings).

Always advocate for yourself

Wow that’s crazy. I’ve never had an offer completely pulled before. So sorry. But also sounds like you maybe dodged a red flag

I’m interviewing for a marketing manager role at a company based in SF. I’m genuinely excited about the role and the company but we’ve yet to discuss salary. I expect to be asked at some point, but my research has given me a VERY broad range. So I’m here to do a bit more research. I’ve got 5 very relevant years of experience and will have an associate manager directly reporting to me. Are there any marketers out there who can share their salaries in similar regions and experience levels?

Im currently going through industry change.
Im a pastry cook with 4yrs experience and the average salary start for this position is now at $22/hr here in vegas, especially in the strip. But cooking/baking is not my passion. So im changing into veterinary medicine and im seeing that the starting rate for a vet tech is around $16-18. Why is that?? Why are people in the vet med industry being paid so low?? Something needs to change. Labor of love aint enough for the people in this job.

I was approached on LinkedIn for an early career recruiting role in DFW, TX. I don't have direct experience, but I have the university experience/connections from working in career services. This is the first time I've considered work outside of higher education. I said my salary expectations are minimum $90k and that didn't seem to be an issue. Am I asking too little, too much? How can I know I'm getting the best salary and not just settling at the low end of the range?

For expert witnesses/lawyers

I’m a former forensic scientist that left the field several years ago. I recently received a subpoena from a case I worked and suggested to DA to have evidence re-worked by the lab or stipulation. If I am required to testify (as an expert witness), I would need to book a flight, hotel, etc. My question is this: can I ask for my requested hourly rate, travel, and hotel to be covered when speaking with DA or is that “not how this works” as the investigator put it?
