I had to fight with management for a whole 3 months to sanction something small that my team had asked for - 1 free snack from the break room a day. Starting at the beginning of this year, this new system was passed, and I thought it would make everyone happy, but now there are just more and more demands. The bar magically moves and suddenly there are new “small” requests. How do you do the 'keep people happy and set boundaries so perks don’t spiral' thing?

I'll be honest, it's a mistake to get involved in something trivial like getting people one free snack. That's so petty that people are not going to be happy with it. It just creates an opening for more distractions from whatever the people are supposed to be doing. It's best to focus on the work and let people handle their breaks, and what they eat on them, on their own.

Honestly, that’s such a classic manager problem. I’ve started being super clear: “This snack perk is what we can do right now, anything extra would need to wait until we see how this works.” People push less when they know the boundary and the “why” behind it.

If you give an employee a cookie, he's gonna want a glass of milk? I think the problem is, upper management sees this as a pizza party, they think they're so generous and giving everyone exactly what they want. And your team sees this as a pizza party, really this is the best they can do? And, sadly, you are stuck in the middle. Welcome to middle management.

Totally get it! I’ve been there too, finally get something approved and then the ‘small requests’ start piling up. I try to celebrate the wins but also be clear on what’s realistic so perks don’t snowball. Boundaries + appreciation seems to be the only way to keep everyone happy without losing your sanity 😅

I was diagnosed with ADHD at the age of 12. My family did not opt to put me on medication. I illegally discovered Adderall in college. Worked incredible. Got diagnosed after college & after having been fired from my first job. Passed the CPA exams on Adderall. Went off of it again. I do everything well at my job except for attention to detail within my excel files & emails. Will taking ADHD medication really fix this? Does anyone else have this issue and was it resolved by taking medication?

Has anyone ever posted a general marketing position? We have an open position on our marketing team but we are unsure what type of position to offer. We have a wide variety of needs but don’t necessarily need to have this future person have all these skills. For example we need someone with great copywriting skills and also need someone who is great at digital marketing. This person doesn’t necessarily need to have both skills but if they did great, but if only one, great too.

So I say this with complete humility and an understanding that this is a fortunate-ish situation to be in. I’m in a position where I am tied to nothing, I have no children, spouse, or house. My job, which I’ve loved until some recent significant leadership changes, is sucking the life out of me and I think it may be time for a change. Because I am able to “pick up and go” I’m open to opportunities and locations. I’ve never worked with a recruiter but was hoping I could get some recommendations!

Hi Fishes, I have received the letter of intent from Wipro and it's mentioned - 'You will be designated as Senior Software Engineer under the WSM General Stream and will form a part of the Career Band B1 in the organization.'
Just wanted to know what 'WSM General stream' and 'Career Band B1' mean?

I'm thinking 120-135k would be bad/mediocre, 180-195k would be possible/a stretch, and 160-170k would be doable/realistic. Thoughts? Not interested in Deloitte.
