I have a client who makes scope changes. When these requests come up, I create versions of the timeline to assess the impact so I can tell them if you do X your new go live date is Y. This creates a lot of extra work though gives me confidence in that I have mapped out all the tasks and dependencies. My delivery team tells me I shouldn't do this and instead give them time range. Would like to hear how other PMs handle..do you scenario plan or provide a back of the napkin time range?

I scenario plan, and instead of a specific date, I do give a date range. I like to give my team a little extra space.

Then if they come back with some additional changes, which it sounds like your client does, you may be able to bake some of those into that adjusted time frame.

This will help the client feel heard, and as though you're not nickel and diming them for all changes.

like

Yes to this and I think it depends on what PM system you are using to manage timelines. Something like Smartsheets makes it super easy to scenario plan very quickly to more exact dates, while still providing a range to the client, but if you have a more manual process that could take more time to turn around. But a range doesn't lock the team into something that may not be clearly defined yet.

I heard and saw lot of bad culture, work life experience in PwC India. People working 12hr a day, weekend works, bad management etc. This also almost same in other big4 India operations. How it is different in PwC US. Is they also have bad work life balance as other big4 base out of India.

Digital/digitally-savvy PMs, can I pick your brains? I’m up for a Sr. PM position at a creative agency working mainly w/tech clients. My background is more print based, especially the last couple years. When I was working in digital, it was very straightforward (mostly static/animated banners with a little bit of social). Hi All- I’m looking for a super simple time tracking platform to integrate with Asana for a team of 5. All we need it for is to see how much time is going into different projects that our department is managing. That’s it. Anyone have good examples of how senior leadership supports project teams during crunch periods (especially if they created the situation)? Trying to articulate specific behaviors that will help our PMs not end up being the “deliverer of bad news” that ppl have to work overtime, especially if the same PMs already advocated for their teams in convos with senior leads.
