Just be honest about it. We're all human and things like that can happen in life. You might think of a concise way of explaining it just so when you're asked you're ready to deal with it.

Keep it brief and to the point when you explain the gap. Next, talk about how you started to prepare when you were ready to reenter your career. Also, my thoughts to you, I had to take a step back to help care for a family member, and it’s a lot.
Not every company cares about a gap on the resume as long as you can show your relevant work compared to the job, but if they ask, be honest, be human, and show them your strength more than anything.
Exactly as you've done here. This is the most valid reason you'll ever find for an employment gap. Any company that would penalize you for this is not one you want to work for. Good on you for being there for your family.
