I have a new job at a place that does mostly social. Obviously I’m a dinosaur. But the main thing I notice about these younger social creatives is that there’s no drive for creative insanity? Or excellence? They all seem fine with just “here’s a format” or “here’s a trend”. And that’s good enough. And nothing is fun to make.

A few years in and I’m finding that the people who have made their entire persona “advertising creative” are secretly the most miserable. I’m taking it as a lesson to treat this as a job and not a calling because it’s ultimately pretty empty.

How do I be a decent manager to a coworker who's upset I've been promoted twice in two years and they haven't? We started out as coworkers, became decent friends after a few good moments, but went back to simply coworkers after they flubbed a few projects and I had to step in to clean up. I'm non-confrontational but year-end reviews are right around the corner and I'm worried about having to act professional to someone who I got too close with and who now hates me.
