I have an interview in two days for a job I'm really excited about, but I've come down with a cold. I'm worried about making a poor impression if I'm sick, but I have also heard it's a bad idea to reschedule interviews because they might think you're flaky. Should I load myself up on OTC meds and give it my best, or reschedule out of courtesy in case it's more than a cold?

Be honest and tell them that you don't want to pass whatever you have onto them. If they're not sympathetic, maybe it's a clue as to how they will be after you start working there

Depends on how bad the cold is. If you can load up on OTC meds and come across as put together (especially since its still 2 days away), I'd do it. But if you're curled up in bed and can't think straight, (1) it may be more than a cold and (2) I'd probably reschedule.

I’ve never heard a hiring manager say it’s flaky to reschedule an interview….if they do think that, is that a company you want to work for?

Maybe tell them and give them the option to reschedule or come as is. Depending upon the interviewer it could go either way. Many would be happy that you show in sickness and in health. Personally, I would be happy for the information regardless and would be fine to reschedule.

I like the person suggesting to let them know and say you’re open to either option (move forward or reschedule), just want to let them know. If it’s remote, I’d work through it but in person it can be uncomfortable.

Pre Covid I had two separate interviews while sick and neither were fun. One I got the job and the other I didn’t. Regardless, I ended up in coughing fits and tears forming in my eyes from trying to hold back coughs. I had lots of Kleenex and cough drops on hand. And did most interviews sucking on a cough drop with plenty of water. They were all understanding of not feeling well and felt bad but it was definitely a struggle, especially the one I had four 30 min back to backs. I think I managed one fine and halfway through the second, I felt like a wreck. I do feel like pre covid this was much more normal and expected to just show up, although now if I was interviewing someone and they showed up that sick, I’d be more turned off by it because I personally don’t want to be around anyone sick, especially if I think they could have rescheduled or done something virtually instead.

Load up! Shows your commitment and shows your serious about the opportunity. I have known people to miss their partner interviews because they were sick and were denied.

If it’s just a cold, then take OTC meds and let them know you have a slight cold. They’ll appreciate the heads up. Two days from now you should be grand.

Im a RN and took on a new role working in Home Health. I chose this position because My husband & I recently moved to PA with our 2 kids (1&3), with no family available for his residency program with a hospital. If you know that life, I’m pretty much the main parent for our kids. I don’t want to work in the hospital/floor work anymore; nor do I believe the hrs are flexible enough. I need a job that’s flexible for the kids but pays >$44/hr. Maybe remote or hybrid? Please help w/ suggestions.

Which one would you pick?

Big name shop. Shitty account, but you get opportunities beyond that.

Shop with bad reputation that lacks PR and hardly enters awards but has a lot of book-worthy projects.
