I have been really stressed about finances lately. I started using rocket money which has been a huge help keeping track of things. Do you have suggestions on ways you save or manage money?

Right now, I'm in a big financial situation since I'm unable to work due to my health. I budget with deficit now.

Here are some things to consider that I used to do and apply them today but with more restrictions.
Im sure there is more.
1. Eliminate anything possible from the variable expenses. Ex if you have Netflix, Hulu, disney, etc. Keep one the rest out.
2. Eating out happens a few times a month. We did 3 times, then 2 times, then once. Including drinks, hanging out. You can hang out with friends in free places like a park .
3. Buy what the body needs, not what you want: meal prepping. Put a limit to groceries depending on household #. Every 3 months, challenge yourself to spend 100 dollars less.
4. Personal care: I started with $300 per month per person. Now is $100. This includes personal hygiene products, haircuts, hair dye, nails, clothes, shoes, and bags. Yes for a woman is very little, but what I don't use this month is rolled over to the next month and so on and I can treat myself every 4,5 months with a salon visit. You get used to it.
5. Every dollar must be accounted for. Even a gum or candy worth 4 dollars.
6. Have a savings account, and every month add something into it. Even 10 dollars is better than nothing.
7. In the beginning, you might fail in different areas, but the idea is to keep moving and not give up. I failed with my groceries and eating out multiple times, I would go 100 dollars over, but I didn't give up.
8. Use apps or paper to keep track of everything. Im a notebook person, and I also used Google docs to write myself notes after I would buy something.
Start with baby steps and develop consistency. Make reasonable changes.
If you have something you have tried and I forgot to mention, please share. I am still learning as well.

I definitely agree that you don't need to spend that much on personal products. There have been small switches I have made that have really helped.

We stopped eating out and that has saved us a ton. We also combine errands to one day to save gas.

I know! Even places that used to be kinda cheap like McDonald's and Taco Bell cost a fortune!

9. Try breakfast for dinner or sandwiches (sloppy Joe, tuna melt, grilled cheese, quesadillas, BLTs, etc) . Can easily double for quick lunch
10. Look for Free stuff on sites (Freecycle.org, Freebie Alerts, and other apps)
11. Check out clearance items when shopping. Every Stop n Shop has a rack for surplus/seasonal items, and another area for baked goods that are at least 50% down
