I have never negotiated my pay before. I had a slight raise earlier this year, but it's barely noticeable. I work in the museum and art field that is experiencing a lot of threats to funding and pay so how can I sensitively yet confidently discuss increasing my pay?

There is nothing wrong with trying. But you're probably right to factor in the situation for culture non-profits right now and understand that if you are denied, it has nothing to do with your quality of work. This is just a very bad time.

That's a great point, thank you!

Getting pay raises when working for a non profit is a lot more difficult than it has the right to be. But you should still try. Prepare to explain to your manager about the value you bring and what you’ve accomplished for the organization. Then explain your thoughts about increasing your compensation. Good luck!

Thank you!

Frame it around impact and alignment, not just need. Come with receipts: wins, added responsibilities, outcomes you’ve driven. Tie your ask to the institution’s mission and how retaining skilled staff protects long-term value. Acknowledge funding challenges, but don’t apologize for wanting fair pay. Say the quiet part out loud: your work sustains the culture they're trying to preserve. Keep it calm, firm, and values-driven.

Wow, very well said! Thank you!

Have you thought about, fundraisers,go to the library and get you some books on fundraisers,in which had many different ways to raise fund,,,in my case,I had went to a Christian based rehab,in which I am forever grateful, but they where running out of funds,so the worked events like carnivals,Racesaetc parking cars, and when they didnt have a gig they pan handling at intersections which is illegle,,I went tobthe library and I found a book guarent3d successfully fund raising ideas,,,I actually put two of the ideas together, and was very succesful,,,so I don't know if this would help,,but it sure wouldn't hurt to try

Hi Everyone - Need some insights. My PERM process was started by company in Feb’22 (currently awaiting wage determination, submitted to DOL in May’22). Its been months and DOL is working on requests from Jan’22. My H1B expires for good in Oct’23 (with all the recapture). Is there any chance I’ll have my PERM completed by then? For those of you who have been through this process, what was the overall timeline like?. Appreciate any insights you can help provide! TY!

Hey! Any Google folks know if it’s possible to negotiate fully remote if a contract role is hybrid? Personally, I don’t want to relocate and go to the office on a contract role given the current economy. Plus, I’m assuming contractors are the first to go in layoffs. I just think it’s a fair trade off if I’d be allowed to work fully remote. I’m also trying to have flexibility to manage my Airbnb business in a different country. Same time zone as the home office if I’d travel weeks at a time.

I’m currently in a lease admin type role, in commercial real estate. I make a base salary of $50.5K with about $9k in bonuses. I’ve continuously received 7-10% raises over the last 3 years. I anticipate getting a promotion this year and would like to get closer to $60k for my base salary. I’m the only person in my role at the company and have been a key person in developing our team as we look to expand. Is this unreasonable? Is there a normal increase given with promotions? Thanks in advance!

Should I Go Back and Reneg? Recently I was offered a role as a Project Implementation Manager (In Retirement Services) .The salary range for Colorado residents was 65-89K. I’m located in NY so the recruiter said he would try to get me more. Ultimately he came back at 90K which is a bit inline with that I was seeing on Glassdoor but approx looks like I may leave 10-12K on the table. I accepted already but may get an offer from another HR company in account management around 90-100K. Need advice
