I'd argue that the new model mostly benefitted folks. And will be a net positive to the company and peoples career. It adds a lot of quantitative requirements at each level that will make it easier for people to make a case to move up the career ladder, keeping the process more objective.
A lot of the complaints were due to change and fear / uncertainty / and doubt during the process.
Across our local markets (due to the historically flat career model slalom had), I saw a large amount of consultants being mapped to titles higher then their previous consultant titles. Many being mapped to senior consultant, manager, and senior manager.
In our global technical teams (where we had a more standard, i.e. not flat, career model), I saw some contention with senior engineers getting mapped to consultant, or architects getting mapped to senior consultant. However in both our old and new models the rung in the career model remains the same (t2, and t3 respectively). So complaints were less about where they got mapped, but more about the new title being perceived as less senior externally.
Author: thats such a good point, hadnt thought about it that way. Wouldn’t surprise slalom did take that into account.
Depends on the market. I think a lot of people didn't get the promotion they were expecting and are blaming it on the new framework, but that's just a hunch. 🤷♂️
I'm happy with my result, but our new titles were just shared with us last week and go into effect this week so I don't know how my peers feel yet.
Sc4; as i said in my comment before “with high client recognition an praise”... that implied good quality work.
That’s the Slalom way.
The up or out model puts some structure in development that Slalom lacks. Also you would never see an analyst with very limited experience becoming senior manager in 3 years even if they are rockstars as they need to have experience.
Is anyone considering leaving slalom due to their title alignment not being what they expected?

SC4 - I had the same experience... no regrets as the tech experience I got at Slalom was valuable, but needed to dance around my “consultant” title when it was time to move on with my career elsewhere.
