I hope this topic turns into a podcast episode. My story is that I graduated from a university in May of 2024 and moved to live in the same area of the university in November of 2024. I‘ve been searching for a post-graduation full-time job since August of 2023. Unfortunately, I couldn’t get an internship before I graduated. When companies hire full-time employees, they always ask for experience, but I can’t get the experience if nobody is hiring me. How can people like me get out of this loop?

So I was in the same situation. I had worked in juvenile justice for 15+ years and was trying to change careers into HR. Ran into same issue. Someone suggested volunteering…. I was like - huh? Volunteer in HR? So I went on a big volunteer website and looked for remote HR opportunities. There was a descent amount of remote ones I could do. Found one - got it and did onboarding and recruiting for them. It was easy and anyone could really do it, but it helped me get my full-time job now!

I did a lot of volunteer work for things not related to my field, as well as extra courses some of which were related to my field. I think that helped me a lot since I did not find that to be an issue. My employers were impressed with my tenacity when I shared all that I did with my free time (when not at school for a degree and not working yet). The reason I gave for doing all that was that I wanted to keep improving and pushing myself and stay busy. During the 6 months I was looking for a job in the US I volunteered at 2 different places, took 3 online courses to know how to operate certain programs, and participated in contests just to stay busy. When I was at an interview, I asked what program they used at work, and after getting an answer I said "Ok, I can take a refresher course on that".

Also, for my first job in the US I sent out tons of CVs and portfolios but it took messaging the CEO on LinkedIn (it was a small company) with all my info (see below) + going by the office to drop off physical samples of CV, letter of recommendation, letter of motivation, and portfolio "just in case my email didn't come through".

I like brown shoes with my suits. I would only wear black shoes if I'm wearing a black or super dark almost black suit. Black shoes look stuffy to me. I try to avoid wearing them. Anyone else feel this way?

CFP study programs:

I'm a little confused on Danko - does he offer a self-study option for the coursework requirement? On his website it looks like each module has a 4-day virtual class which I wouldn't be able to attend due to working full time. Does this program also include self-study material, and the classes are just supplementary/optional? I was also looking at Dalton for self-study and Danko for test prep. Thoughts?

Has anyone quit their job because of a relationship? I started my job 3 months ago and now my employer wants me to move to NY. The thing is, I fell in love during the pandemic with a friend that I have known for 3 years. It's frustrating since I know I could continue my job from home. I would honestly quit my job and wouldn't mind the job search again.
