I would ask for a meeting with HR or the owner/whomever gave you the promotion if independent. A similar thing happened to me years ago. So disappointing this is still happening.
If you want to not call them out directly you can say you’re grateful for the role but the pay isn’t matching your peers, is there a timeline or certain milestones to hit to receive the equal pay.

Information is power. Take it and use it to make your case.
Separately, how is ACD part of the leadership team? Normally it’s the C-Suite only.
Seems like a simple solve: ask the person who hired you for a $30k raise. If they offer $25k more, take it. If they say no, then start looking elsewhere. No need to say your colleagues make more. To me, that sounds whiny. Now you are an ACD looking for another ACD job, and the only person who knows you make $25k less than what you want is you. For the next one, try for $40k more. But remember, the best reason to jump is what type of work you will be making, and how great the ECD is.
Do you mind sharing what they’re making? Now I’m wondering
Update: I took your collective advice and got a raise. Thanks for the support.
Have they been ACDs longer? Obviously this is an upsetting discovery. Just looking for more context
This! 👆 I was going to ask if they were hired as an ACD vs promoted. You can always get a higher salary band as a new hire vs internal promotions
How did you find out?
Good on you and them for discussing openly!
I hope you can negotiate and get what you deserve.

Internal promotions are always so disappointing salary-wise 🙃 I got a $20k pay bump between senior and ACD internally, but had to leave to get $12k more (and I still feel like I’m in the low range for ACD!). Job market sucks right now too—my friend in PDX has been looking for work onsite or remote since last spring.
But I agree with Creative 1, you can push for a raise internally first to “match industry standard”. I don’t necessarily agree that bringing up your colleague’s salary is whiny, but I wouldn’t mention it because HR and higher ups are still weird about salary discussions and transparency. At a previous agency, my coworker was threatened with her job when she flagged a similar situation. Ultimately she got the raise, maybe because they realized the legal repercussions, but it was bad vibes after that.
Good luck!!!

My mom (long retired) told me the story of her company hiring a newbie for her same role. She was training her and found out the newbie makes more. She went to her boss and demanded to be matched in salary and he did. That was decades ago in a diff industry but still worth a shot imo.
