How about this? After the evaluation, the Administrator has to come into your room and teach a lesson where they implement all of the suggested improvements while at the same time implementing everything that the teacher scored well on. Let them show us how to do it....
Such a great idea!
I’ve had great administrators that actually did help me improve quite a bit throughout the process, but sometimes they just have a little power and like to use it. It doesn’t mean anything- I mean, there’s no raise or promotion or bonus or…anything. I don’t know why I used to care so much. I couldn’t stop caring. Now, I don’t waste too much time caring what they say, especially if I don’t respect their judgment. Clearly, yours doesn’t deserve rent in your brain. Continue to be excellent for you and the kids…not for the meaningless evaluation 😊
That’s awful! I feel like education is changing and it’s more about workplace politics than anything else. Like who fits in with the other teachers or who is friends with who and who isn’t. At least that what I see at the school I’m at. It feels like High School and then Admin makes problems for those teachers that don’t fit in. Idk, if any of that applies to your situation, but that’s what I’m seeing unfortunately.
It may also be some new Admin that thinks they are doing a good job by being so particular. Ridiculous though! Have you tried bringing this up to your union?
Can you not in your post ob get it moved up. Sounds a little harsh to me for just 2 kids not getting into your "hook" and just looking at their feet. Sounds like a power trip for sure. I know that they use "developing" in our school to have a chat and usually move it up.
I worry about how the students do more than an evaluation.
There are only two reasons that happened. One being the principal’s cousin needs a job or two no one is able to get all positives. I have been an English teacher for over 20 years and recently went and earned my admin license not to be one but to try and figure out why mine always seemed to have big issues. As far as the observation rubric, in SC, which is like Maryland’s, it is pushed to not give any perfect scores. The rubric is built so it is virtually impossible. So, when observing I am transparent and pick the easiest, silliest moment to fix. This is especially true for amazing teachers. I wish they were more upfront but I'm 99 percent sure that is it. It doesn't make it hurt less but that’s the game state departments play sometimes. It sucks because the only losers in that game are the kids.
The same thing happened to me many years ago. I had 29 students in my science class that day, and they were doing labs. I had four groups with six students each and one group with five students. One group in the back of the classroom got a little off-task and was talking about unrelated issues for a few minutes, but then resumed focus. I got a big ding in my evaluation for this. I advocated for myself in the post-evaluation meeting, but it did not make a difference.
