I keep skipping roles if I don’t match the exact stack, even when I’ve used similar technologies before. Last week I didn’t apply to a role that actually looked like a strong fit because of that. Are people applying anyway or only going after close matches?

I need work too badly to care if I'm an exact match.

I'm a big boy and can take no for an answer, so I'm not afraid to ask for anything. I don't misrepresent what I can do and mention that I am always learning new techniques so can easily pick up on anything they do with which I am unfamiliar.

Exact matches are scarce.

I am absolutely applying anyway. This job market is really rough. Anything that I have 75% of the skills for, I am applying to. I am just really hoping to land something soon.

I would still apply anyway, you never know who else is applying

No job will be 100% match, don’t limit yourself. Additionally, with EA new job your goal should be to add to the skills list, new software, new tools, new experiences. If your not learning, you’re limiting yourself and a potential stagnant growth.

Apply apply apply. Maybe they expect you to be an exact match but frankly that's unreasonable and there's no harm in applying. Just don't apply to very poor matches because then you're just adding noise that makes it harder for other good matches to cut through. But even if you meet 50% of the stack, or have an interest in what they use, give it a go. Just my 2c.

I have an offer to do some consulting for a company based out of the UK (I am in the US). The job would not go through a consulting company but would be directly with the company. I have not done any consulting before so I am not sure how it works, what I would need to set up (they mentioned that I would start a LLC and bill them directly, no idea how to do that), how to determine the tax implications of this, or what hourly rate I would expect. Can anyone offer advice?

Hi! I have a quick question and could use some advice:

I have 1 job offer that is an hour away and pays 45k, after negotiations (Research Associate Position at a University) .

I have just interviewed for a position closer to home and a base salary of 65k, but haven’t heard back from them in about 2 days (He said he would make a decision by yesterday and I’ve reached out).
I have to decide on the first offer by Thursday but I haven’t heard back from the second yet. Thoughts on next move?
