BNI is a networking group, so not what you are asking about, but it can be really good for litigators. It is time intense because they have meetings every week, but different groups meet at different times and I imagine there are tons of groups in New York.
There was a family law attorney in my prior group who seemed to do pretty well.
Also, consider finding an organization that you can speak at to help build your credibility and spread word of mouth that you are now out on your own. National Business Institute is the company I speak through. I typically do a few sessions per year, but they were happy to load me up with more presentations when I had time to kill after going out on my own.
Check the ethics rules on that. So states won’t allow it.
Can you explain how you’re doing several “of-counsel” positions ? Are you 1099 with the firms? How do you represent yourself on the matter? As part of their firm or yours? How about letterheads and office address and email address? Are they yours or the firm you’re “of-counsel” with? Curious bc I am trying to do the same , just stuck on how exactly ...
We get a lot of referrals from more specialized attorneys in our building. There’s a tax attorney who sends us clients. Our accountant sends us clients, better clientele than online paid referral systems.
