How important is that standard of living to you? If it's not that important and you'd rather have that extra 20K then go for it. But if it is important to you then maybe it's worth considering if it's worth 20K to give up.
It is important! I have young family and money is not a big motivator in life for me, it's career progression. Maybe I need to find a way to do that in my current city.
I wouldn't personally do it, but I don't really care about potential growth. For me, I'd rather make more money and spend less on rent and other expenses. I'm a little bit lazy though, so take that with a grain of salt. I do know that Vancouver is considered pretty expensive, I had a friend who lived there and she couldn't believe how much rent and other things cost. I would definitely check out the cost of renting an apartment and other utilities before making the decision. You might find that it's a pretty significant pay cut when you factor in the cost of living.
That's the thing I have a mortgage as well which is lower than rents in my city i.e. Calgary. Not a small city either. Just that the industry is pretty focused on oil and gas here and my line of work is not related to it. Maybe I need to find a way to break into Oil & gas. More I think about it more it makes less sense to uproot my young family and move for possibly a payout all things considered.
I would imagine that moving to Vancouver would give you more opportunities for career growth. I would personally stay put because I value life outside of my career more than advancing my career.
Yep, I think it's better to stay put. Possibly look into pivoting to a different industry. I have a life here. New city with its new challenges is not ideal even with 20k more.

With RTO becoming more prevalent, the bigger city offers many more opportunities for when you want or need to make a chamge. I can also tell you from experience that moving a family is much easier when you are young. As everyone grows and builds a life, it becomes less a discussion and more an argument.
I've thought I had the job I would retire at 3 times now, yet at 48, I am staring another potential job change square in the face. Our daughter is 22 and firmly planted here with her husband, so moving again is not an option, which limits already small executive positions even further.
This is just my experience, and I'm not even suggesting that staying put is a bad idea. Many people have happy and fulfilling lives, never leaving their hometown, where others are forced to move against the families wishes to keep up their standard of living. I just wanted to offer my one perspective to be considered in life's infinite future possibilities.
