after reading this email. Should I just take the lights down to keep the peace or should I go out and get a bunch more lights to hang from my balcony, move my Christmas trees to the window facing their apartment, and basically make sure they can't look out their window without seeing pretty Christmas lights everywhere they look? Because I'm feeling pretty petty at the moment
Yes you must do this immediately. I suggest taking the morning off work for this extremely important project.

Take my neighbors route. They put multi colored strobe lights that turn off n on all night.
Christmas decorations are everywhere, so I’m not understanding how your lights are so upsetting. Nevertheless, I wouldn’t add any additional lights, but the suggestion made about putting a timer for them to turn off shows consideration and a willingness to compromise, at least to a degree. Otherwise said neighbor should invest in country living with no neighbors for miles.
