Yes. But look into mini splits instead of central
I have mini splits in my 1200 sqft home. They work great! And my electric bill in the summer with AC running often is surprisingly low (can't say the same about heat in the winter).
If you're getting by with window units in some rooms, you might be able to hold out longer. But it does look like the trend is not our friend. These heat waves are getting worse and more frequent.
Under 1500sqft mini split. It’s like a refrigerator in my house. I installed a MrCool DIY setup it was $2700 2 weeks ago. The lines are precharged with Freon so it doesn’t require an hvac person. Project is moderate complexity. I’ve never installed one, but it requires running 220V wiring, drilling a large hole in the wall, creating a cement pad for it to sit on. It’s a weekend project. It heats my house in winter. My bill ranges from $90-$180 and I have it set at 75 year around.
OOOF no central air. In this heat I would definitely be considering it. I do not like being hot and keep my home around 69 degress year round. I can't imagine being in this heat without central air.
69 is both too hot and too cold lol.
I keep it at 60 when heating in the winter and 75 when cooling in the summer

Depending on heat set up, a heat pump may be an option for you (they cools as well)
Get a portable AC unit
