New to the city.
How do you all get through the constant gray and gloom? Especially with the lockdowns: with gyms closed, and constant drizzle - what outdoor activities do you do?

Take advantage of the sun when you can in the winter. In terms of things to do many people hike, ski, snowshoe, fish, etc. It’s not much different from living in the Midwest when it’s too cold to go out and do things in the winter. Attaching a helpful guide to Seattle Seasons that I saw when I first moved here

Yeah! Moved from Midwest winters which were something.. so.. in some ways glad about the milder weather, clean air but the constant gray is something else :)

Buy good rain gear, a puffy jacket, some duck boots and make yourself go outside. Do not bring an umbrella. ☂ also plan to take a trip in February or March to somewhere sunny, even for a weekend. Super quick trips to Napa/sonoma/sf/palm springs etc.

The gray is tough when it goes on and on, but get outside for walks

smart

I agree. When I first experienced the London grey coming from Sunny Australia, I found it depressing.

Now in Seattle I have a great rain jacket and the grey/drizzle doesn’t bother me and it’s nice to get outside for a streatch and cold air on the face.

I’m an Aussie who went to London in 2012. That was super tough. Constant grey/wet cold weather and away from home. Met someone and moved to NY for 7 years. Now used to the cold weather and have a partner and family.

Moved to Seattle late last year. Was worried about the grey but think I have the London experience and family, makes a big difference.

I’ve enjoyed putting on a warm jacket and getting lightly wet over lunch as I go for a walk. Have to take every advantage to soak in the sun while it’s out. Love that’s it’s quieter and cleaner here too.

What do you guys think about apps like BetterHelp and Talkspace? I understand they might have real therapists working on their content, but a lot of the marketing I see is so vague and broad that it feels like a lie. Seems like "This app got rid of my anxiety with a 30-minute automated text questionnaire" is the new "This tea made me lose 20 pounds in two weeks!" Just seems a little fad-like and money grabby to me. Thoughts?

Been in Seattle for ~1 year and something I’ve observed is the constant s*it-talking of the city from the locals. Is this because they haven’t experienced other places? While the current homelessness in the city needs to be handled, crime is still relatively low compared to other major cities. The complaints about gloominess also seems a bit dramatic. I’m from the NE and am so grateful to not be dealing with snowy winters and sweltering summers.
