The new company I’m at now sent me an email from an email address that was HR@companyName.careers saying I was accepted for the position. They gave me paperwork to fill out and sign to accept the position
I fill out the paperwork and send it back to them and it goes through… then a few days later I go back to the email to say something else and I get this…?
Then today I got a check from the company In the mail to setup my home office, and it’s signed by someone I’ve never met before or heard of…?

Is there a lack, or are you just not listening to enough new artists?

In the 60s you needed a label to back you to get your music out there. Artists don't need that anymore. The internet makes it easier for artists to grow fanbases. There are artists who have never been on a top 40 chart but are selling out shows, touring internationally, and have fans who know every word to their songs

You ever heard of the Wiggles?

There are a lot of good newer artists, they just don’t get mainstream airplay. So I agree that people don’t know about them, but they do exist.
Check out a few Spotify playlists for bluesy rock to start. ‘Beer and Wings,’ ‘Southern Comfort,’ and ‘Blues and Roots Rock’ are some of my favorites.

Get out of the mainstream fluff and dig deeper in Spotify/etc. Look internationally as well. There is awesome music out there.

One of the greatest things I did for my kids is expose them to great music and don’t narrow yourself to one genre. Way too many older people get stuck in what they heard when younger. I’m old but learned from my kids too.
People have said this in every generation. When I was in school I remember people lamenting the new garbage music like Linkin Park. Now they are seeing as good old school music.
Modern music is fine
Thats definitely an intriguing stat. I definitely have a ton of questions around it though. Is this a US only phenomenom? Or is it global? are we seeing the impact of streaming in the music market? Or is it really a loss of the music industry?
When I was in high school in mid 2000s, I remember listening mainly to 80s and early 90s music while everyone else listened to what radio djs or mtv played. These days you can choose what to listen to much easier. Maybe that has an impact and its not so much the quality of music.
you don’t know where to look I take it
Big follow up (posted in a few response threads): this isn’t me being a Boomer, there are legit stats that point to how the industry is dying for young artists. https://www.theatlantic.com/ideas/archive/2022/01/old-music-killing-new-music/621339/
