I love that story! Cursive is such a beautiful skill, and it’s awesome to hear your student took it on. I think there’s value in teaching it, even if it’s not as commonly used anymore. It’s a great way to develop fine motor skills and gives kids a connection to the past
yes
The state of Georgia is brining it back.

Good for Georgia! I wish more states would bring it back.
We are teaching cursive writing in 2nd grade
Rising Star
That is awesome. One of my 6th Graders told me that she learned cursive at a private school.
It should be taught!

I agree 100%
Yes for many reasons one being it helps with dyslexia and other learning
Rising Star
I did not know that about dyslexia. Interesting!
It really needs to be brought back! It's a great skill to have but more importantly, the research strongly shows the benefits for memory and motor skills.

Absolutely. I always tell my kids how writing in cursive helps me when I feel anxious or stressed. I have had multiple students who like to write, and some of them are really good at it.
Honestly, I couldn’t be more fine with kids not learning cursive writing anymore. It’s outdated if you wanna learn as a hobby fine but it doesn’t need to be taught in school. It’s a big waste of time. I wasn’t taught cursive writing at school and I went to school in the 90s. They started pushing typing classes, which was a better decision cause I haven’t used cursive a day of my life.
Knowing cursive is definitely not a waste of time. It’s not just writing cursive, it’s reading the handwriting too. Look at all of the historic documents that you won’t be able to read yourself. You will have to rely on someone’s transcription. Sorry to hear that you are fine limiting yourself to typing. I think our students deserve more.
