Hello I got a confirmation from HR at Shell that I have been selected for a role and there will be background checks before joining the company. He said the mail will come from a 3rd party vendor for the background verification. It has been 1 week and there has been no mails till now. Is it normal? Should I follow up with the HR again?

I'll be the lame big sister: leave it alone. First of all, it's bad for your career regardless of what happens. Second, it puts him in the incredibly awkward position of having to deal with advances from someone below him on the org chart, even if he were even a little interested. Third, we always tell men to stop assuming basic kindness is romantic interest, especially at work, and the good ones do so. That means you're going to have to be pretty direct to make it clear that you're interest is personal, let alone romantic, as opposed to someone seeking mentorship. Now consider how horribly said directness could go for you both.
Not at all judging by the way! I'm just old and age brings the benefit of having made a lot of mistakes (and having witnessed others do so as well).
Leave it alone especially if you are a lady, if the feeling is mutual, let him make the move or mind your job and be professional. What if he has a partner?? Or just not on that path?
He might never make a move since you’re a subordinate. Do you have a conference or work trip coming up? People typically loosen up then. If not, I would ask him for lunch one day and see what the vibe is. You could try to move the conversation to a more casual/personal tone and see how he responds
You say you want to know if he likes you but remain professional. Not sure I understand why it matters he feels, if you want to keep it professional.
