If you’re a fourth year in biglaw, what responsibilities are you given in m&a? I feel like I still haven’t had a ton of opportunities working on purchase agreements (and mostly just take the lead on ancillary work streams) and I’m afraid I’m falling behind others in my class year.

You should be the lead associate on at least smaller deals if not most or all of your deals and definitely taking the lead on marking up purchase agreements. If not, try to actively seek out such role as a lead associate and offer to take up that task. If you are not being given that opportunity, you should seriously consider moving to another firm where you will get that experience as it’s crucial to your development.

I agree that your group is not thinking about your development if they aren’t giving you a lead associate role by the time you’re a 4th year. If that’s not targeted at you individually (and I have seen that happen to some associates) then it’s a failure of the group to strategically give you those opportunities to grow, which is just as bad.

Hello Guys,

I joined
Cognizant recently, the project interview calls which I am getting is not from my base location.
I have the location constraint, should I wait for the right opportunity or raise this concern to ADP team so they can look in to it?

As per ADP policy, one should not have any constraints and take the project as FCFS basis.

Has anyone taken mental growth leave from NY BL who is willing to please share about their experience? I would truly appreciate it.

27F, 2nd year associate (no ambitions of being partner) - I’m depressed, anxious, stressed and just need a break. I’m at the point where I’m willing to quit with no other options, but want to see if theirs any safer way of taking a breath of life and grinding a little longer (I have loans, I financially support my parents, etc. ).

Have opportunity to work in my firm’s London satellite office for about a year and a half, and then come back to NY headquarters. In good standing with firm and have M&A and capital markets experience. Did not start traveling abroad until my bar trip (did not grow up with the money for trips like that) and think it would be a good personal and professional experience. Any thoughts / advice?

2012 Sr Associate. Left my firm in February after being recruited by a partner I used to work for, and it turns out I’m not very happy. Difficult people, terrible schedule and ruined vacations so far. A partner at my old firm in another group has asked if I would come back to work for just him. I liked working for him, we have great rapport and I could do permanent WFH since he is in another city. I don’t want to burn bridges, would this be a bad idea? Or an easy decision?

Can two different recruiters submit you to the same place if they’re submitting 4-5 months apart? I’m not using both concurrently. I’m hoping someone might have some ideas about this- I’m currently five years out of law school with a clerkship, a tax LLM, 3 years of experience doing transactional tax work and a few months of EC/VC experience (which I recently switched to from tax). I like the EC/VC work, but I don’t know how long I want to stay in biglaw. Can anyone weigh in on how employers for in-house roles might look at my experience in a year or two?
