I noticed more sales roles asking for AI familiarity this year, even when the job is still very people-led. I am learning it, but I wonder how much is genuine need versus buzzwords. How much does AI knowledge really matter right now in sales hiring?

AI knowledge isn’t really a thing. That’s like saying you need admin knowledge. AI can be a great analyst, admin, marketing, and editor within a single tool.

I agree with this. I see AI less as a standalone skill and more as a multiplier inside existing work. If someone already understands sales, AI just speeds things up rather than replacing judgement or relationship building.

"Familiarity" is fine at this point.
Given all the AI "hallucinations" on some platforms and other glitches, any roles of the type you mention that insist on heavy use of AI are likely clueless of sales reality and prospect perceptions.

I feel the same skepticism. When a sales role demands heavy AI use, it often signals a disconnect from how buyers actually behave. Familiarity feels sensible, blind reliance feels risky, especially in real conversations.

At this point it's probably enough to be unafraid of AI in the workplace. From what I can see, it's still too early to know how profound a change it's going to bring, or whether it will be mostly hype. People in sales needn't be studying machine learning. Learning how to write prompts, and being familiar with the potential of AI, is certainly a worth an expenditure of time.

This resonates with me. Being curious and unafraid matters more than deep technical knowledge right now. I think knowing what AI can help with and how to prompt well is the realistic sweet spot in sales hiring today.

IBD came to states at 8. My cousins back home are getting arrange married. My parents are starting to pressure me and pity me. But I have no interest in following a "timeline" and am pretty ambivalent when it comes to kids. I already have a SO and do not see a reason to tie the knot just because other people my age are. Anyone else getting pressured and its getting annoying?

Hey Bowl,
I work for a late stage(ipo) start up, earlier this year we were acquired & since then they got rid of our yearly bonuses and gave us an ESOP grant.
2 RIFs later we are almost bare bones. Since we are coming up on our usual yearly evaluations many of us assumed (with multiple conversation from our managers) that pay raises and promotions were due.
In a recent All hands we found out that this year there will be no pay raises nor promotions based off merit. Is it time to jump ship?
