I recently saw one of my colleagues who joined the office around the same time as me, and now he’s working two positions higher than I am. I was surprised at how quickly some people move up in their careers while I feel like I’m taking small baby steps. It actually motivated me and made me reflect on myself. I started wondering where I would be today if I had taken the same path or made different choices. Do you know anyone in your friend circle or workplace who moved up faster than others?

I love coming across these types of individuals that succeed in the same company that I am. It’s very inspiring to see. I had a friend that climbed up the ladder within two of her being at the company. We are both in different places in our lives but it’s great to see it happen.

It is definitely inspiring for me and at the same time, makes me question my ability as why was I not able to do that. I guess some people are just more talented than the others.

I've worked with people who seemed to advance pretty quickly. Everyone's story is different, of course, some people have more obstacles than others, some simply have more open positions available to step into. It's good if those thoughts inspire self-reflection. There are often things to learn from observing someone else's career, if we really choose to pay attention.

You are right. You can for sure learn from other people's career and get inspiration from it. I feel like I may lack some of those skills that those people have lol.

I've definitely seen that happen - I'm always a bit skeptical to be honest...

Me too. I don't know if they do something suspicious to get those positions or may be they are really exceptional to grow this fast.

Do you all see a compelling future in your tax career? I’ll go first, I don’t see a compelling future working for a large PA firm in the long run because you have to work more as you move up. However, I do see a compelling future by using my knowledge and skills to open my own firm/business and work less hours as long as I make enough money which is $75k, or if I do work long hours, it’s because I want to.

Hello all!
I'm 26, I studied economics but I don't know why I'm not much into investing/trading. Someone else like this?
I recognize this is not a very good approach for someone with money "knowledge" and I would like to change this mindset. My main weakness is that I easily get bored of following the market and that I do not see big opportunities. Any advice?
Where to start learning, general advice for LT and ST investments, things you learnt, books that changed your pov on the topic etc.

Thx!

My sister might divorce with her husband, they have a baby of 1.5 year. We came from a divorce family and honestly never thought it would happen again - I feel powerless and I don’t know what to do. I feel bad for my sister but I am also mad at her (the fault is always in the middle) because they are not trying to fix it. I am also scared for the baby, I perfectly know what it means to grow up in a divorce family and as much as parents are present is not the same.

What value do TPMs provide? In my company all they seem to do is tell other people to work on things they’re already working on, and incessantly nag people on slack for status updates and timelines which you’ve already provided.
