I sat through a meeting today where we spent almost an hour talking about a problem everyone already understood. Lots of words, lots of agreement, but nothing actually changed by the end of it. Walking out I kept thinking how much time we spend discussing work instead of just doing it. Does anyone else feel like some meetings exist mostly so it looks like something is happening?

I think there are certain jobs that only exist because of these kinds of meetings. And if we didn't have these meetings about meetings, they would cease to be employed. But of course we can't have that so we have the meetings!

That’s so true . I feel like that’s what big corporations do . Is the meetings for meetings and the nonstop emails . Heheh I laughed so hard , when I see videos of people showing their corporate lifestyle , that’s all it is , meetings talking about nothing that helps employees . Meetings to bring in more money for the company . Meetings about who will get the next promotion and who will not .

I feel this way all the time! There are so many meetings that don't even need to be a meeting. It drives me nuts how many meetings we are expected to attend.

Same here. I do not mind meetings when there is a clear decision or action coming out of them, but the ones that exist just to check a box are brutal. Half the time it feels like the actual work gets squeezed into whatever time is left after the calendar clears.

An hour long meeting that could have been an email? ABSOLUTELY!!!

This sums up all my meetings. I asked for the PowerPoint slides on numerous occasions and was told I should've wrote more notes. Very productive.

Meetings, emails, conversations….all to pass the time and give optics like people are being productive. Some ppl have the luxury to abuse that 👀. Most jobs require you to actually work. And the ones who tend to do the least get paid the most….what do ya know? 🤔

Absolutely, I’ve felt that. Some meetings feel more like performance than progress lots of talking, little action. It’s exhausting when you leave and nothing has actually moved forward.

Anyone been able to work from Dubai for a UK/US firm and benefit from no taxes? I know if you are a US citizen you pay taxes where you are globally, but if you are British, then you only pay income tax on UK income - so if you live more than half the year abroad you are classed as non-domicile resident, but wanted to hear if anyone’s done this or heard about it?

Tech company lay offs….are they soon to be inevitable?!

There is lots of companies really taking a hit in the tech space. Is this something that people are nervous about? Many seem to still be having a hiring push but with the button falling (IMO this is still just start we have a long way to go to bottom out) will that halt and layoffs ensue? And if so, which depts do you think will get hit the hardest?
