I spent half the morning explaining that flexible working does not mean “working whenever you feel like it.” The myths never die. HR translation mode stays on. What is the most common misconception you are constantly correcting?

A common misconception is that HR ignores complaints entirely. While this is definitely true for some bad HR departments out there, it’s not always the case. There is a lot that goes into an investigation, just like how you’d want that for yourself if it were you being complained about.

like

Exactly. Investigations look slow from the outside, but fairness requires patience and evidence. I often remind people that the same careful process protecting others would protect them if roles were reversed.

Why shouldn’t it though… as long as the work gets done. What difference does it make?

like

In some roles it can work that way, especially outcome based work. But many roles still require coverage hours, coordination with teams, or service availability. Flexibility usually means structured flexibility, not total unpredictability.
