I think retention after the economy bounces back is going to be very low. Anyone else feeling a lack of satisfaction? No perks, strict RTO, long hours, no job security. High performers are going to leave the second they can

Outside of less frequent Happy Hours and no free lunches (always intended to be temporary), what other perks have been taken away? While it is sad to lose these (I love HH), I'm not sure those make a drastic difference in overall experience

Don’t be loyal to any employer. Take care of yourself first, always.

3 years ago, nobody in any industry outside big tech was getting perks like free lunches (and they've all stopped offering that).

Long hours are tough but a part of consulting or any client facing career. I know RTO isn't popular but I find I actually learn a lot more working side by side with my team than having a hundred zoom calls.

All my friends are having the same issues at their firms but worse (way more stress about layoffs, etc) and jobs outside consulting don't seem to offer as many perks as they were a year or two ago. Maybe this is the new normal we just have to get used to?

like

They also said bonuses will be based on personal performance, so they'll probably try and take care of top performers as best they can, while those of us on the beach for 2 months at a time will feel it the most

won't they reinstate perks once things bounce back?

I don't think we had free lunches in europe

Pay this year is going to suck but as long as I can make it to a nice exit after the economy recovers it's all good. I don't regret joining this firm, all my classmates who went into consulting are in the same boat, and at least my salary is decent. Do regret consulting, I'm just tired and stressed all the time, consulting sucks

I agree. The perks that we had helped justify the long hours that we work. Without them, it makes the job less enjoyable and more stressful. Now coming to the realization that maybe I should prioritize health and social life over work

like

You should always prioritize your health and social well-being over work (with social side being within reason; like go to your brothers bday dinner, but OK to skip 3rd happy hour of the month type thing). Without taking care of both, you’ll burn out of this job sooner or later anyway.

Lower bonus means bite of RTO noncompliance is less

Read the rest of fishbowl and you’ll easily read reasons why people don’t like going into the office

Similar in Europe I think. Less strict RTO though

The entire market is like this though. So like where are you going to go?

Also What is so hard about going into the office? People did it for decades. There are legitimately huge benefits for being in the office, you should go in more often if you do not realize that.
