I truly believe that any firm forcing paralegals back into the office five days a week is going to lose their best talent by 2027. There is absolutely nothing I do at my desk that I can't do from my home office without the hour-long commute and the distractions. My boss says it’s for culture, but the culture is just us sitting in silence in our cubicles anyway. Is anyone else willing to take a pay cut just to stay permanent remote?

I’d be willing to take a pay cut to be 100% remote. I think a lot of companies really overestimate how much people care about company culture. Most people care about optimizing their time and energy/having work life balance.

You can't really do anything about it. It's their way or the highway. I would say I need a day or maybe two in the office per week to do my job efficiently. This is extremely draining at this point, but it's necessary. We do employ some permanent remote people including one paralegal, and I highly doubt they took pay cuts because it was mandated by the office. Make it make sense when the in-office people have all the extra expenses. Would I take a pay cut for full remote? Why should I when they didn't. Hypothetically speaking, if I could be 100% efficient fully remote I might take a 5% pay cut. Anything further would not be worth it to me.

Making my first job move using a recruiter, is it typical that they are the ones doing the negotiating? Is this standard practice or is it frowned upon to ask to talk to the Company directly to negotiate a higher salary?

I am prior military and went to law school. I had a family to take care of while I was a student, hence I went as fast as possible to get to a paycheck, graduating in 2 years, and bypassing the standard summer clerkships. How could I get some experience strictly remote? I am w-2 working as an accountant in healthcare, have passed the bar and am working on my CPA license (studying starts at 3 am, then work FT). I would like to eventually hang a shingle as a tax lawyer, but need experience. TIA!

For those of you who made the switch to in house/corporate law, what was your experience like? Did you have to take a lower position to gain the experience or were you able to argue that your soft skills were transferable to in house? I’ve been in litigation for 15 years and I’m looking to make the switch. Ultimately, I’d like to get into Legal Ops, but feel getting some in house experience first would be beneficial.

Are there any fully remote lawfirms, ie you don't have to live in the state they have offices? My boss (atty) is so disorganized! I’ve been with him 6 months and he’s having a hard time delegating, sharing info and managing deadlines. I’ve organized the caseload to manage the deadlines. He says he wants me to help with discovery but when I offer to start on one, he says he needs to do it. (Since he might have to present as evidence) When I give him deadlines and ask for the docs he says he’ll get to it. It’s a small 1 man firm, and I’m the first assistant besides his wife. Any advice?

I did it! I got an in-house Paralegal position after years of working and being burned out at different law firms. I was going to leave the legal field all together because I was so burned out and depressed, but I decided to give the field one more chance if I was able to go in-house. Prayerfully, this transition will be a good one.

Paralegals: My firm is looking for a paralegal, and I see the job posting advertising the salary as $65-$75k, with benefits. Is this a good salary for a paralegal (Greater LA area)? I’m not the decision maker, but it’s been a few weeks with very few applicants. I’m curious if there’s something hurting the firm in its search.

We recently launched ParalegalListings.com, a job board designed exclusively for paralegals. Please check it out if you’re looking for a new job or just want to keep an eye on the market. Thanks!
