C-Y-A… as soon as he misses the deadline it will be your fault! Whenever you calendar deadlines, make sure you give him a hardcopy and write the due date on it. Email him so you always have an audit trail. Many attorneys are last minute people. Good luck!
Don’t make this your problem. I’d find a different firm with more capabilities than a one-two person operation.
Try to get the wife on your side?
Yes she likes me a lot and we work well together. She was the force behind hiring an asst because she was also overwhelmed
Solo practitioners can be control freaks. Like small business owners. You can either work with that or you can’t, but he likely can’t/won’t change. New job time.

Working for an unorganized attorney was the worst decision of my life. I did it for years and eventually became extremely burnt out. I would not even bother and find a new job.
I do a lot of skeleton drafts for one of my attorneys. So, I just start the pleading with the caption and introductory language for whatever it is and signature block, and then he just adds in what he wants. I also do a status email on Monday mornings with the stuff that’s due that week and we have a shared calendar. If he misses something after all that, it’s on him.
