I purchase classes (pilates, yoga, etc.) for the next day or coming week. The money spent motivates me to get there. I also know that I can’t just go to the gym, and I need a class full of people and an instructor to motivate me. I actually just did pilates with a friend today so there’s a social component too. I have multiple friends who go to the same studios so the fomo motivates me too haha
I’m actually pretty cheap. So first I go for the free classes which get waitlisted pretty quick. Then I go for ~$10 ones as filler. I guess me feeling like I’m getting a deal is motivation too.
There is the physical but also emotional drain. If you are physically drained I would reassess your nutritional needs given your body has gone through so much change and you are regularly working out still.
As for the emotional/mental stamina, I always hit ruts after a while of doing the same activities. You may be more in sustain phase now. When I hit goals whether it be pace/weight/reps, it would get boring when I knew I didn’t want to add more. So, I took on new physical challenges like Pilates, yoga, swimming just to mix it up.
Lastly, I switched my mindset to long term goals like cardio health or thinking about weight training to reduce risk of osteoporosis. Things like that help me sustain.
This was me all of last year. I've always been in relatively good shape, but for whatever reason, I just lost the motivation last year. I'm finally getting back into it now and have managed to be consistent by telling myself it isn't optional - it's an obligation, just like showing up to work. I know that isn't a super helpful tip or anything, but that change in mindset has kept me consistent through the first few weeks, which are always the hardest in my opinion. Once it becomes part of my routine again, I'm good about sticking with it.
That’s actually really helpful thank you! And good for you!!
First of all, congrats on the 100 pounds lost! That's an amazing achievement. I totally get how exhausting it can feel when motivation drops. Maybe start small, like a 10-15 minute walk or stretching. Sometimes just showing up is half the battle. I feel like if I waited to feel motivated, I'd never show up. So sometimes you just have to force yourself even if you're not feeling like it
