I was chatting with a colleague today and we were talking about how a direct report was checked out lately. It’s certainly an uncomfortable situation. How would you handle it as a peer or a manager?

I feel like there's a lot more to that story than what you wrote because I'm not clear why that is uncomfortable. But whichever of you two this person is closer to should ask them if everything is ok and start from there. ("...I only ask because you don't seem yourself lately")

Uncomfortable in that it’s not an easy topic to bring up. That’s a great way to start

I personally like the checkin, I do it regardless of if my team needs it or not, "Is there anything I can do for your?" I also follow-through. Teeth and all that. Sometimes I go out of my way to relate to my team by asking them questions about what I should do, or ask them for advice, even when I don't need it. That has opened so many shells for me since I've been doing it.

Nice, a great tactic!

I have a question, I got a contract role through a recruiter. Initially the recruiter offered the hourly pay rate which was the minimum in my range. Now I got an offer from the company. Now without me asking her she increased the hourly wage to the maximum range I asked. Which makes me doubt if the company increased it or she knew the rate all along but gave me the lower rate ?

Someone here asked recently which candidate would be better for workers like us who are here legally with all the credentials, paying US taxes just like Americans. I kind of laughed inside and I still do. Why even ask? Did any other administration excessively hate us this much to the point the rules changed substantially gazillion times a year? Let’s be real. This is nothing more than direct targeting of us. How can anyone not know which is at least less worse? 😂
