I was laid off a little over a year ago and have been actively looking for a new job since. I've continued with online training and obtained one certification. Over time I feel that I have adjusted my expectations for the role I will be able to obtain, but would like to stay on the same career track. At what point have I been out of work too long and do I just need to get SOME kind of job (possibly something related to an earlier, less desirable, role in my career) to maintain my hireability?

Generally speaking, it's better to show that you had a job, whatever it happens to be, rather than just having a hole in your resume. In today's world, people do get put out of work for long stretches, so it's not like it's a huge stigma. But it's still better to show that you've been showing up every day and making a living.

I’m a newly graduate from a community college. My program of study was Health Information Technician. I passed my RHIT exam a month ago, and I’ve been applying to jobs in state, out of state, and remotely to only receive “sorry you were not selected email.”I don’t have experience and I know that’s the reason I’m not getting selected. I’ve applied for receptionist, medical biller/coordinator, and medical clerk. Even with inflation willing to work for minimum wage or less just to gain experience.

Do large law firms really recieve enough applications for a position that they cannot follow up when someone reaches out to check on thier application? I get that if you have to reach out, they probably weren't interested anyways, I'm just curious why there is a practice of just leaving applicants in the wind. And also, how does one go about finding out why they were rejected, if thier qualifications are "impressive"?
