An executive asking for you could open new doors you haven't previously considered. I'd stick it out and see what that card gets you. You can always leave later!
Keeping options open is important. If an organization's new business roadmap doesn't align with your career goals, it's time to move on.
Depends on the role, pay, and opportunity. They want you for a reason so you may have some bargaining power on title and pay increase. I get not wanting to step outside the IT world, but sometimes it is refreshing and eyeopening to work in a different business capacity snd have exposure to new ways of working. I would give it a chance, you never know wheee it can lead.
Are you being transitioned without input from you? That is strange. You should be part of the process and presented with the opportunity. I think you should find out more and work through your questions and concerns with the leader interested in having you on the team.
Have you learned more about what you’ll be doing and where your career will take you as a result of this transition?
Definitely voice your concerns and ask questions on exactly what you will be doing and what your growth path is going to be. First to your manager and then to HR if necessary.
I agree with EA1. Ask questions to gain clarity, but being requested by an executive is usually a positive thing. Also, organizations restructure and reorganize all the time (usually without employee input), so the alternative to this arrangement could be much worse.
In my experience, play this out. If you really do have the attention and interest of a c-suite exec, you never know where this can take you. You have the technical expertise. What can you add to take this to the next level? Don’t be afraid to ride this ride and see what happens.
I’d have to rephrase this to not what’s happening TO me to changing my mindset to what’s happening FOR
me I mean an executive wants YOU on their team. That says a lot and definitely something you should explore with them in a conversation. They obliviously have something in mind it’s worth exploring. You never know what doors this is opening for you.
