I was terminated from Penn Medicine during orientation because I wasn't matching the level of skill that my management had wanted unfortunately. Is there a chance of rehirement after termination?

I would say this scenario depends. Did you sell yourself as having experience or knowledge you didn't actually possess? If yes, then unlikely for future rehire.
If it was a mismatch with no intentional inflation of your skill set then sure. Sometimes facilities think they have the bandwidth to educate someone for a role only to initiate that and discover barriers. For instance, their experienced staff may already be over-burdened and unable to train a new member. In that case, parting ways and hiring someone with more experience would make more sense for you and the employer. Neither benefits in keeping that employment agreement or training cannot be properly arranged. In this instance you should be eligible for consideration in the future.

I would think not.

I’m assuming no but it would be worth checking with HR. Sorry to hear that happened to you.

like

I would definitely find out what specific competencies you apparently were not meeting and get some training in those areas before attempting to reapply. Even better if you can show how/where/when the training occurred.

like

I agree with the comments below - what skills did you not have? Why were you hired in the first place? I have never heard this happening in my career.
I also know nothing about Penn Medicine. If it a private office, you likely will not be rehired.
If in PA, it is an "at will" state and you can be let go for just about any reason. Unfortunately, you were not there long enough to collect unemployment from them, but maybe from your prior job?

like

Not sure, but go ahead and file for unemployment asap.

This is a question human resources would be able to answer for you.

If you’re looking to be rehired into the same position you were terminated from, this may be difficult unless you can make a strong case to your former supervisor and the hiring team that your incompetencies are now strengths. They would also need to believe that taking a second chance on you is worth the risk.

If you’re looking to apply to a different position with different responsibilities in another department, the possibility of being rehired is more likely.

Hi all, I am a 4th year chemistry PHD student (International/Indian) and will surely finish in about a year, around Aug23. It can work for pharma (Merck, Pfizer, GSK etc.) as a scientist. However, I recently learnt that consulting firms particularly MBB also hire PHDs from diverse background. I am wondering what steps can I take in a year to do the transition if its possible? Or do I need to get some big brand name on my CV to do the transition?

Additional Posts in Healthcare

Hi Fellow Fishies,

I am reaching out because I was recently contacted to interview for Cigna Provider Engagement Development Program. I wanted to see if I could connect with anyone on here that I can help give a breakdown of what this program entails, day-to-day, and WLB. Any tips on the interview and interview process for anyone working in this position? I would be truly grateful for any help or information that can be provided!

So I had been working as medical interpreter up to the early part of this year. Today, during an interview, the Director with whom I was interviewing genuinely urged me to consider pursuing a career as a PA or even attempt to go to medical school. I had considered it in passing before but today was about the third or fourth time that someone had earnestly nudged me in that direction. Has anyone here made such a career pivot before? I love working in healthcare, there’s nothing like it.
