Isn’t that kinda the point? They’ve opted out of caring whether Cannes and the “right” creatives like their work and just go for the loudest, simplest stuff their audience will eat up. And we are not the audience.
The reason they’re lapping other brands is because they realized the small circle of gatekeepers who decide what “good” ads are don’t actually matter.
The hard lesson we should have learned is to tie creative awards to serious performance metrics. We continue to not want to learn that lesson, and Liquid Death continues to beat us at the game.

It’s just the opposite end of the spectrum. The average person doesn’t give a rat’s a55 about the “art films” that creatives love to gush about.

Yup. But I think Creative 1’s point is even smarter. We know people don’t care but increasingly, our solution to make them pay attention is always desperately trying to show off our own creative chops and taste. Because as creatives, we’re really trying to win the favor of other creatives. But most of America doesn’t love A24 and whimsy.
Liquid Death knows no one cares so they hit you over the head with a mallet.

Here to recommend Bullshit Jobs. What an enlightening book about us as an industry without barely referring to us at all.
Their try-hard launch video years ago was extraordinarily overrated and not the least bit entertaining IMO. I never understood why so many fawned over their work.
I guess that these days we’re all so desperate for anything remotely different from the normal schlock that the industry bar has been severely lowered?
Don’t get me wrong, the simplicity of LD is absolutely brilliant and proves that marketing and advertising alone can make you a zillionaire, I WISH I was Mike Cessario; but there’s only been 1 spot or activation they’ve ever done that I thought was really good.
