Generally no, it’s tax free. That said, if the AD is a chain with another location in the shipping destination state, then they will charge tax.

Some ADs will do it, some won't, but definitely worth the ask!
100% depends on the AD. Some will charge sales tax based on delivery zip code even if they don’t have a business in the state, some won’t. Always ask.

As someone who practice in this area, the law in most states since the Wayfair Supreme Court decision back in 2018, is that should a taxpayer (ie retailer here) have more than $100,000 of sales or have 200 or more transactions in a state in a year, that creates nexus and a collection and filing obligation for sales tax unless that state does not impose a sales tax. These retailers that do not collect either do not meet this requirement or run the risk of not being in compliant.
On the other side, you as the consumer may owe use tax if sales tax was not charged unless you live in a state that does not impose a sales tax. This is typically reflected when you file your state individual income tax. As someone mention already, how many of us are honest.
I wasn’t charged sales tax on my wedding jewelry back in 2015 but he charged me tax on my new GMT this year. Think the rules have changed.
If they’re shipping to your home address they should charge tax for your home state. They usually charge tax according to where the watch is being shipped.
My thought was you pay taxes in the state where it is shipped to.
But the other side—pre COVID—is getting your VAT back at the airport. So many people forget about this, but I bought ski stuff in Switzerland a while ago, and the refund was quite substantial at the airport. People forget about this. Though I haven’t been to Europe since virus.

In my experience this holds true every time. And if they don’t, then find another AD who’s more willing to do business with you. Remember, you’re the one spending thousands of dollars, it’s up to them to please you not the other way around

I mean, it is technically fraud. Most are willing to do it and pretty much everyone who does gets away with it but it’s technically a crime.
You can’t really hold it against someone for not wanting to do crime on your behalf.
Also, the attitude that the AD is expected to “please you” is super gross.
If that store is not located in your state then typically you will avoid sales tax
