ADHD medication with high Blood Pressure?

I found ADHD meds helpful when I worked in consulting in my 20s. I stopped the meds when I went back to school. Also have had High BP since late 20s. 15 years away, I am back in consulting and loving it, however my difficulties juggling so many projects/tasks is holding me back. I know I would benifit from some ADHD medication but my Dr won’t prescribe any with my history of BP (controlled with BP meds). Anyone else gone through this? Any tips?

My docs have been okay prescribing various stimulants so long as my BP is controlled. I'm on Adderall and BP meds. BP is fine. There are other types of meds that don't affect your BP as much but they have not worked for me.

This is good to know. THank you for sharing.

I take non stimulant medication (for other reasons - was getting side effects on stimulants). It could be worth looking into these other options?

I would definitely recommend taking to your doctor to see if this is an option for you. They shoudld be able to recommend something that will work for you.

I’m not a doctor, so take this with a pound of salt.

I’ve never had BP issue, but I experienced high BP on Adderrall, my GP didn’t care but my sister is an NP and she didn’t think it was great. I know the specialist NP I go to now made sure I didn’t have a history of heart issues because she wouldn’t prescribe a stimulant if I did. This could be the issue you’re having with your Doctor. Are you going to your GP or a specialist (like a psychiatrist)? Perhaps see a specialist if you’re going to your GP. I’ve heard of people on BP meds along with a stimulant to control the BP symptoms.

Hi! I’m a young professional with less than 2 years experience, started a new job 1.5 months ago. I’m having quite some difficulties on balancing out my response time to tasks. While I act incredibly fast if not immediately with some, I sometimes take 1-2 weeks with couple of hours worthy ones. Sometimes I ignore, procrastinate or simply other more urgent things come up to increase the delay. Also I work with 3 managers in my team which doesn’t help with expectations nor guidance. Any tips pls?

I just started meds yesterday and the change in my focus and attention to detail is mind blowing. My only concern is, just yesterday I had a tough feedback session with my manager around how I’m taking too long to complete my work, giving them anxiety around close deadlines. I’m new in the job (3 months in). Should I explain anything about my adhd to my manager or just wait for them to notice the change in me?
