If me and another rep both closed $2M last year, what's the tiebreaker for getting chosen for a job? I'm in tech sales and feel like everyone's resume says the exact same thing. Do they just flip a coin at that point or what?

Who cares about a resume? I don’t even look at it. I’ll look at LinkedIn before an interview to see the work history but I’m going to judge how you are showing up in front of me, home homework you did or didn’t do prior to talking, your passion, your ability to read the room, to deliver a message, etc.

You have a loser attitude just by this question. If you don’t know why you are differentiated from your peers and can’t sell that, how can you sell a customer.

So true!!!! Especially with EVERYONE USING A.I. to do their resumes.

There are lots of criteria that can be brought into a decision like that. You have to assume the people making the decision are trying to project ahead and imagine how each candidate would perform in the job. That's where intangible traits and skills can be a factor. They may consider if one person is more determined, more articulate, more personable, more organized, and so on. If someone gets a promotion because people in management "liked their style," it's usually a combination of things like that.

I hate to say it, but sometimes it just comes down to personality and vibes. If you and your opponent are just as effective, they might just like your energy or there’s a little bit better. Can’t really control much about that, unfortunately.

Why would you hate to say that? That’s so fûcking critical. EQ wins consistently.

I do not think it is a coin flip. When numbers match, they look at deal complexity, territory difficulty, consistency, collaboration, and how you sell. I have seen attitude and coachability tip decisions more than raw revenue.

I've never had specific deal numbers come up in an interview, or even quotas. Everybody can get lucky, so a single deal isn't much of a barometer anyhow.

To a larger degree, one's network and industry contacts can influence a decision, though how you show up during the interview is the biggest decider.

Any Texas Bourbon drinkers? Husband and I are looking to replace our go to favorite, Witherspoon, since it went defunct. Very much looking for a sipping whiskey that's less pain in the wallet than Garrison, but doesn't have to be used as a mixer like most we've tried.
Feels like I'm never going to find a new Texas favorite!

I had a very positive experience interviewing with Amazon for an L5 Technical Writer role. I originally applied for a lower level writing role, ending up acing my Loop, and was passed on to speak to the hiring manager for the L5 role.

Given the positive tone of our conversation, I expect to receive an offer this week.

Can somebody tell me what kind of base salary/bonus/RSU ranges I should aim for? I'm transitioning to tech and have 10+ years of professional writing experience. PNW based.

Started talking to this guy through group a group telegram and one day he offered to pay for my lunch as I had helped him out with something. Since then he has been offering to pay for my dinners, salon visits, shopping etc and I have accepted 3-4 times. I am in a steady relationship and my boyfriend doesn’t know about this. The other guy just says he likes paying for my stuff and there’s no agenda. Is this a little weird?
