Texas 1835 Bourbon. It’s around $35 a bottle and is super smooth for the price point
We'll look next time we're in a store!
Visual Storyteller
Still Austin Musician. ~$40/bottle. Wild Turkey Rare Breed ~$45/bottle. Lone Elm Single Barrel.
Still Austin has been on my sights, it's just been surprisingly hard to find a good solid replacement for my favorite over ice option.
Balcones has a big range from $25 till $100+. Ironroot starts at about $35 but might be harder to find now since the award.
We don't dislike balcones, but we also haven't fallen in love with it either. It's good, no doubt, but hasn't become our go to
Milam & Greene Single Barrel stuff is great but it's sourced; they know how to pick em.
Garrison is my go to Texan, but also trying to find a good daily sipper. 1835 is a mixer, imo. Still is ok. TX is standard Jim Beam. Ironroot is my next try if I can find it.
Yea agreed on Garrison, tbh. With that said, I think Cowboy is the best Bourbon I've ever had - beats Pappy 10 & 12, imo - but I don't really stock any of their daily stuff because you can get better quality Kentucky and Indiana bourbon at $50.
I like Still because of the concept too but they're just not there yet for me. Hopefully in a few years. Another one I'm keeping an eye out for is Luckenbach Road, because they're backed by a popular spirits company and are focusing on farm-to-bottle production.
Okay we picked this one on the sommelier's recommendation. I like a first bite followed by smooth.
But we also picked up a bottle of Sotol, anyone else like it?
