Same. It’s very freeing to have some financial power on your side.

More. If you choose this business, you’re wise to live below your means and save.

Clearly you haven’t perused the “how much do all the ECDs here make” thread
Does your 401k count in this math?
If so, I could probably last 12-15 years. If not, maybe half that.
6-12mos — I’ve been in the “I don’t think I’ll make rent” situation too many times to ever chance it again.
Unfortunately I play this game every year. Freelance, I try to earn enough each year to be able to afford a 2-month unscheduled vacation. I don't take any time off until I reach that point. Fortunately for me, January-February are my worst months, and it is always busy from August-December (but there are a ton of days off, which are unpaid). Still, my goal in December is to have enough money to survive until new budgets get approved, and if that happens to be during the ski season, I stress a lot less.
Supporting 3 kids, so probably less than 3 months. Always on the job boards tho!

FAR less than three months.
Yes. Probably about a year.
Me, too. Helps me sleep better at night
I have 6 years liquid if my wife works. If she is jobless we have 2 years. We also have income from a rental property to fall back on.
I don’t do emergency savings after the first 5 years working, everything gets invested.
8 years if I tap into my stock portfolio and if the market doesn’t crash.
Please save a much as you can, this industry is so not stable. Try save 25-50% of your income. And lower your high reoccurring monthly expenses like rent.
It’s a shit show. Especially as the industry is always looking to trade creatives for margins.
6 years with some cuts (no major vacations) but keeping some luxuries (house cleaners) if we were both let go using only cash savings/CDs. 15 years tapping into non retirement investments assuming the market doesn’t tank. Indefinitely (with cuts) if my husband keeps working.

About to find out.
6 months in savings. 8 if I can stretch it.
6 years if I dip into my personal stock portfolio.
High dividend yields from income based index funds (10%) give me a month of survival every year.
I had about 12mos when laid off last fall for 6months. I couldn’t last another 4months paying Cobra again this year.
5-8 years
About a year of depression.
I could cover about 6 months…I started a side hustle over the last year that I could build up just in case though.
Yeh we could stick it out for 4 months I’d guess, I could earn more if I didn’t work remote so in a sense I don’t fear the axe
Paying out the nose for a high level income protection insurance package to cover mortgage etc but still keeping a side hustle in case
Which income protection insurance do you use?
