In the past, I can say I’ve never been laid off from a place that I wasn’t trying to quit. I was already interviewing and they beat me to the punch 😡 There was a strange sense of relief at first. Then I went through the usual emotions. Since I really like my current job, I would really be sad.

I would definitely be shocked and a little sad that no one gave me a heads up or time to prepare to find something new. I really love my current job and rely on it to pay the bills, so being fired without notice would be devastating.

Stress first and foremost, then anger. I've put a ton of effort into growing this company and have produced great results during my 3 years here. Being let go out of nowhere would feel like a huge slap in the face.

Relief. It’s the most toxic place I’ve ever worked. Bring on unemployment $ while I wait for the next right role.

Shock and questioning of your work first, thinking of all the things that you could have done better or didn't do. Then the worry sets in about finances and the current job market.
The worry is real
