Got an offer for a sales applications manager role at Cisco and a Strategic AE role at Amazon - both are basically the same pay (130~ base, 220 OTE)

Not saying either of that. If you don’t know what this is all about then there’s clearly a big gap in understanding between you and your boss. That’s never a good sign for your job security.
Time to replace some members of your design team, you / your ACD’s need to help lift them up or you need a better understanding of what these evolving needs are. Why are you taking offense to things being bolded? I’d just view that as priority #1.
I think it’s obvious that they are not happy with the quality of the design, period. As the leader of that team, you are responsible for the output. So it’s either a problem with designers on your team that you need to take care of, or you since you are allowing subpar work to be produced. Either way, it’s up to you to change.
This sounds similar to my experience after getting promoted to the GCD role. I discovered that the ECD wanted me to improve and or address gaps in the CDs, which was also communicated to me in performance reviews. It was strange to me because I was a high performer and consistently received positive feedback. Sometimes, the problems previously there were not addressed and now they have a high performer in the role - they are optimistic you can address it.
They want you to do the dirty work.

Means someone thinks your team isn’t hip and groovy enough (aka they are no longer in their 20s like the new client brand managers) and would like you to start replacing them with people younger, cheaper, and who love doing social posts. Or NFTs.
