I don’t know the inside scoop on Tombras but even if I did I’m not sure I could tell you if you made a good decision or not without seeing your portfolio or where you did wind up going.
I will say that if you got a job in a reputable ad agency in a major city, that’s probably the right choice if Tombras meant having to move to Tennessee. I think agencies should be remote, but most aren’t, and a first job is often a shorter role that you jump from to get mid level after a year or two—will be easier to jump living in a big city
Tombras is a bad agency with bad leadership. Jeff Benjamin is a walking red flag.
BBH made top 10 or top anything today is equally baffling.
Maybe BBH London, 10 years ago.

Because they’re making fun work and aren’t Mischief. Doesn’t surprise me. And yeah, the good shops are never the easiest places to work.
What fun work?
Pay for play
IMO Tombras has some wind in their sails right now, but it's only a recent thing. I'd like to see if they can sustain the hype for a while longer before getting stuck in TN.
Don’t feel too down. Those rankings mean nothing and working under Jeff Benjamin sounds like a bad time.
He’s such a weirdo. Dude sucks.
You didn’t make a bad decision. AOTY =/= the opportunities you get as an individual, especially as a junior

A few things:
1. I am not discrediting the work creatives do.
2. Industry awards are often rigged or influenced by some way or another.
3. More often than not, agencies that win awards do not properly reward personnel that worked on projects that win.
Better to be in a bigger job market job for future job security and options. I would only leave nyc if it was a WK, CPB, Goodby or Fallon back in the day
Made decent work, won a good amount of new business, and bought an agency in SouthAmerica. The awards are too heavily skewed into the money side of the industry IMO.
You made the right choice. They pay to play. Jeff Benjamin is a super weirdo and not in a cool smart way.

You passed on Tombras? lol
I wanted their nyc office, not tennessee so it didn’t work out. But i’d say i’m at a longer respected indie.

We all are. You made the right decision not to go there.
OP, I feel you. Hard not to feel baffled whenever you check headlines. Permanent residents being jailed and deported, your tax dollars going towards missiles that raze entire city blocks, and, most disconcerting of all, Tombras winning AdAge’s Agency of the Year and BBH making top ten 😔

Those lists are total bullshit. If you let them influence your choices it’s going to be a rough ride.
Who cares about agency lists. Just like what you do and stop chasing the awards rat race.
Awards mean nothing and are retroactive, agency’s sway with the wind and rotate their excellence. Constant swing and change and remodeling and reorganization. Also agencies pay to be considered.
Pay ZERO attention to that stuff
